Asatte no Houkou - 01

Hiro lives with his sister Karada alone after their parent’s death. Their normal life is interrupted when they get a visit from Shouko, an old acquaintance of Hiro’s back when he was in America before coming home after his parent’s death, and we find out what exactly their relationship is.

Summary:

  • We see a young girl, Karada, praying at a shrine. A woman, Shouko comes up to her and asks her what she is wishing for and she just says it is a secret. Eventually Hiro, the little girl’s brother comes to get her and when he and Shouko see each other, they both look shocked.
  • We see the next day, Hiro waking up to Karada making food. They are going on a trip to the beach and the two of them, along with Shoko meet up with two others to head there. We find out that Shouko and Hiro used to know each other, back when they were both in America. Karada then invited Shouko to the each so she went along.
  • Hiro, Karada, Shouko, and the tow others all have fun at the beach doing normal activities. Eventually Touko, one of the other two, asks Shouko about her and Hiro. She gets kind of mad saying for her not to misunderstand, there is nothing between them. Karada comes up and asks what they are talking about and Shouko just says its nothing a child need to worry about.
  • Hiro tells Shouko after Karada leaves how she hates being treated like a child. We see a flashback to Hiro and Karada four years ago. Apparently their parents died and so the two of them lived together, Hiro being Karada’s legal guardian.
  • After they beach, Karada gets some ribbons and asks Shouko nicely if they look good and she says they do, in a childish way which makes Karada upset and she runs off.
  • Hiro and Shouko talk alone after everyone has left and Karada has headed home, Hiro saying how that was mean to do on purpose. Shouko says so Hiro likes salty foods, which she learned from Karada during lunch. She said that she never knew that, that when they were together she never cooked for him. She asks if he left four years ago for her, referring to Karada. Hiro says she was his only sister, (and with their parents dieing he had no real choice) Shouko says she didn’t know any of that.
  • Hiro asks Shouko if she still loves him and she just slaps him and runs off crying. She runs into Karada who is at the wishing stone and the two of them wish, and then we see the two of them switch ages, Karada growing up into a woman and Shouko reverting into a child, which was apparently their wishes.

Impressions:

This show is certainly interesting, as it is fairly unique. Although, maybe the whole age switching or something along the lines of a body switching isn’t completely new and innovative, so far even with that this show itself is surprisingly good. This first episode was a beautiful introduction into the series that defiantly has potential.

Honestly I’m really unsure of how things are going to go in this show. Usually I have more of an idea on what I think will happen, but for this show because already the character they introduced were so interesting, it seems that the background of the plot will be exciting, although likely a slice of life type of show dealing with the relationship between Hiro and Shouko as well as the sibling relationship that go in the way of their romance involving Karada. Even without the age switch thing this already had the potential to be fairly interesting, given the whole reason why Hiro broke up with Shouko, and having to help his sister and so on.

My guess is that the body transfer thing will mainly give self revelations to Shouko and Karada. Although it will be interesting to see other peoples reactions to it, like that one boy who had a thing for Karada, and also how they themselves deal with it, overall I HOPE that it will serve a bigger meaning such as clearing something up between Hiro and Shouko.

I think that the whole motivation for the wishes was that obviously Karada wanted to be treated like an adult, as they had already stated she hated being treated like a child and the thing with Shouko kind of pushed her over the edge. However Shouko’s reason is a bit unclear and I think it is because she says Hiro acting so nicely and taking care of his little sister, she wanted to be a child to be important in his eyes or something.

my understanding of shouko becoming a child was because her wish was to “start over” thus reverting back to the form of a child for a do over of her life

This is an example of poor pacing, charachter development and dramatic structure.
How can a team with such a good history put out such a sub standard series.
By the end of ep.2 I was actually yelling at the screen/charachters because it was just
too ‘unrealistic’. Even for an anime.
