Yuuichi finds out the truth about Shiori’s illness and tries to question Kaori about it, and finds out what exactly the relationship is between Shiori and Kaori.

Summary:

• Yuuichi runs to question Kaori about Shiori’s illness but she just pretends she doesn’t know Shiori. Kaori however asks what Yuuichi thinks of Shiori and she says how he is worried about her, and she seems so kind and feels like a sister to him.
• That evening Yuuichi is in daze thinking about Shiori. He gets a call from Kaori and goes out to meet with her and Kaori tells Yuuichi everything. She tells him that Kaori has an extremely weak body, and will likely not live to her next birthday with is about a week away.
• She says how indeed she is her sister, but she was so sad about her condition that she began to think how it would be better if she never had a sister in the first place, so to avoid having to feel crushed when she died she pretended she was never her sister.
• After returning home, Yuuichi tells Nayuki and she says how all Yuuichi can do is to have fun with Shiori and fill her heart will happiness. At school the next day, Shiori tells Yuuichi everything but asks to be treated like a normal girl. Yuuichi asks if there is no way she can live and Shiori says only if a miracle happens.
• Shiori and Yuuichi spend the week having fun, Shiori going to school, the two of them eating out and playing arcade games. One night they are out together and Yuuichi gives her her birthday present. They spend most of the night out sitting and talking. They dance together around the fountain, as Shiori said how she wants to go to the ball.
• Nayuki goes over to Kaori’s house and they walk and talk together, Kaori telling Nayuki how she feels about Shiori, that she is an amazing person. Shiori tells Yuuichi how she was planning on killing herself once; in fact when they met she had bought a box cutter. That night she was going to kill herself but she remembered Yuuichi’s laughter and she fell to the floor and cried for the first time about her condition. Yuuichi just says maybe that was the miracle. He tells her how there is hope; it’s called a miracle because it can happen.
• Just then Kaori and Nayuki arrive and Kaori hugs Shiori, saying how she is stupid, that going to the same school and wearing the same uniform wasn’t just Shiori’s dream, it’s her’s too. They huge each other and cry, Shiori saying how she doesn’t want to go.
• The next day after school, Kaori is in a much happier mood then she has ever been in as she heads off to the hospital to visit Shiori. Makoto comes by the school to take Yuuichi home and he notices she has a fever. As they walk off we see a girl from school with a look of surprise at seeing Makoto.

Impressions:

This episode was really surprising I think. Not so much for its content and what happened in the episode, but just that it was so emotional, which the other episodes hardly touched on at all. Although it is getting near the end of the series so some of the arcs when concluded will have sad endings and sad parts, this one always amazes me. I remember when I first saw this episode, I think I almost cried. Although they don’t really say for sure in this episode if she gets cured because of the miracle or just lives past her birthday, the whole scene with her and Kaori was just really emotional I think.

Also, again we end this episode with some inclination as to the focus of the next episode. Although not as big of a cliffhanger as the mention of Shiori’s illness, we seem to be going into the end of the Makoto arc as some girl at school seemed to recognize Makoto, a girl who doesn’t even recognize herself.

Really don’t have that much to put in this spot for this episode, the Shiori arc was completed and we are going into the Makoto arc. Although I’ve said it before about her being a fox there wasn’t any huge clues so I won’t touch on it anymore.
