Phyllo meets with Ovan and asks him what exactly happened after he disappeared, and what happened to Haseo.

Summary:
- Everyone is talking about the rumor that Haseo quit. Tabby asks Phyllo about it but Phyllo just tells her how she shouldn’t but so much faith in him and starts playing this game for herself, help Shino in her own way and not worry about Haseo.
- Pai and Yata are looking into what happened to Haseo. Kuhn asks about it and they just tell him how he didn’t go into a comma because of his potential he has. They say he didn’t go into a coma but was brought back to level 1.
- Phyllo meet sup with Ovan and asks him about Haseo and what exactly happened. He says he will take it to the grave with him and Ovan tells him about when he escaped from Pai and Yata’s hold he emerged in the cathedral. Shino found him and ran up and then we see the Sign appear and apparently Ovan was the one who caused Shino to go into a comma.
- Touta talks with Phyllo and Phyllo asks Touta to do him a favor. We don’t hear what it is but it is apparently something with a huge burden for Touta but he accepts the message.
- We see Tabby talking with Saburou trying to figure out what she is going to do, as well as Kuhn being told why Ovan is so dangerous.
- We then see Touta in the cathedral, Phyllo standing before him. Phyllo asks him in a decrepit voice if he is Touta. Touta looks confused at first but then is completely mortified. Touta just says to him thank you for everything, as it was a goodbye.
- We then see Haseo teleporting into town, in his original armor, looking at himself confused.
Impressions:
This episode was certainly extremely interesting. As it is getting near the end this really seems to be wrapping up a lot of the stories of the characters not featured in G.U. The main thing in this episode seemed to be Phyllo and Ovan.
First off, when I saw the bit at the end with Phyllo my first response was this. WTF! Did Phyllo die or something? That is my first impression from what happened and no matter how many times I watch it that is what I think. I mean, the scene was all grim, it was in black and white, and Touta had a look of horror on his face. I have to theories on what exactly happened, both of them being Phyllo died. One is that Phyllo had Alzheimer’s or something which is why he had to ask if that was Touta. It would explain Touta thanking Phyllo. It could be someone else using Phyllo’s character but that doesn’t make as much sense as Touta thanked the person and if it was a random person he would have no reason to do so. Phyllo was an amazing character, and I always wondered why he wasn’t’ in G.U. Even though I knew he wasn’t in G.U., at least not in the first game, I didn’t guess even for a slightest bit that the Phyllo in real life would DIE!
Ok, so there is a slight possibility that Phyllo is still alive. He is shown in the preview for the next episode but that could easily be a flashback or since this is a game, someone using his character. I could be overreacting but that means that the person Touta talked to in the final scene wasn’t Phyllo but someone Phyllo knew enough to have access tot eh account in which case I don’t really see what Touta would be telling him that Phyllo can’t.
The other HUGE thing in this episode was Ovan. I got the impression from when Ovan was talking with Phyllo that he is responsible for Shino going into a comma. That Tri Edge didn’t even touch her. I mean, technically we NEVER saw Tri Edge do anything Shino, we just assumed he did because of the mark on the altar and that he was there when it happened, but he could have just been there after sensing Ovan. That would really fit into the whole why did Tri Edge kill Shino if he is after Ovan’ Well, he didn’t.
This news of Ovan being the one responsible for Shino’s comma thing really makes me question if Tri Edge is really that bad. I mean, Ovan referred to his arm as “this guy” so it defiantly makes me think that whatever is in it is somewhat unusual and not just a decoration that symbolizes him having some mystery, it houses something. To me, this means that tri Edge is a god guy. He is solely after Ovan and whatever is in his arm is bad for he game. Whenever someone would make this guess in the past they would say, then why did Tri Edge go after Shino which now is explained because he didn’t. It was Ovan which easily could mean Ovan being bad guy and Tri Edge being the good. Although in this series there are no good or bad really, it’s all a shade of gray.
At least watching Roots prior to playing GU certainly has its perks… Ovan being the reason why Shino got comatosed and TE being a good guy? Never have thought of it…
Oh, and Ovan referring to “this guy”… it might be his Avatar, Corbenik.
I thoguht of that too but Pai and Yata said that so far only two people have awoken, Pai and Kuhn which I found surprising because up untill that point I had thought of Corbentik being in Ovan’s arm was a big possibility.
Although when he opened his arm there was AIDA stuff coming out of it and that is kidn of the o0pposite of the Avatars too…
Also, does that mean that its not been Tri-Edge making all the “signs” or perhaps he fought with Tri-Edge.Although its not really possible since Shino was attacked what seemed as soon as she got close and Haseo appears while shes falling.
Oh,what happened to Phyllo,major spoiler!

He died of cancer,he was 62 years old and it was a relative using his account to inform Touta that Phyllo passed away.
Ah, I was pretty damn sure he died from the mood the the scene but wasn’t sure exactly of what. Wasn’t sure either of if it was Phyllo with Alzheimer’s that talked to Touta or a relative, but it being a relative makes perfect sense too.
Damn, I still can’t believe he is gone he was an awsome character.
I agree, although we see a character to resemebles him in vol.2 of G.U. if you don’t mind me spoiling that.It was in the trailer that was released not too long ago.
Yeah, I saw that but I don’t think that was Phyllo, just a coincidence since this is a game afterall, character models are likely to be similar.
I know,I did say resembles him then again this is the second time in roots where an important character has a double.
-whistles- Damn, Siabus is a hottie in the anime! Now I gotta see this epi, just to see Silabus!
…It IS Phyllo. Phyllo’s character, anyway. How and why are important later.
When ovan was talking with Phyllo in this eps Ovan said to Phyllo:’My problem… is the same type of problem that you have’. What does he actually mean with that?
@Tbexz
I’m thinking Ovan is probably dying since the game seems to have real life effects.
i.e. You get data drained and you go into the comma ward.
So since it looks like his hand thing is AIDA it might just be killing him. Hence the reason he told Phyllo that.
