Makoto, a girl who bears some grudge against Yuuichi confronts him. We find out Makoto doesn’t know anything about herself except for her name, and the fact she hates Yuuichi.

Summary:

• The girl who was following Yuuichi yells at him, saying how she has a grudge against him. She charges after him but she slips and he dodges her, causing her to fall to the floor. She tries attacking again but ends up falling and passing out. Yuuichi doesn’t know what to do, all the people around kind of gathering around.
• Akiko arrives and asks what the matter is. Seeing the girl she says they should take her with them, that they can’t just leave her here so Yuuichi carries her home. Yuuichi arrives home with her and tells Akiko and Nayuki what happened, how she seems to hate him but he can’t remember her at all, not remembering anything would cause her to have a grudge against him.
• They all go to bed and in the middle of the night we see the girl wake up and wander downstairs to the kitchen. She starts going though the fridge, saying to herself how she is hungry. Yuuichi hears her and confronts her, causing her to scream and cause a lot of noise. Akiko and Nayuki come by and ask what’s wrong. Akiko ends up making her some food.
• While eating, they question the girl on who she is. She says her name is Makoto, but she doesn’t remember anything else about herself. She does know however she hates Yuuichi.
• Yuuichi goes to school the next day and, although tired, goes through a pretty normal day. He talks with Shiori for a while who he runs into, telling her about the girl who appeared. At school Yuuichi finds all his notes and books are written all over by Makoto, calling him stupid and so on. All of his pencils have been broken and taken apart as well, causing him to have to borrow Nayuki’s notes.
• At home, Yuuichi confronts Makoto about the notebook she drew all over but she just plays dumb. He also says how she stole his wallet, as its missing. She says however that she didn’t steal it but Yuuichi doesn’t believe her.
• Yuuichi goes out shopping with Akiko. They talk about Makoto, Akiko saying how she wants to believe her story and how she doesn’t seem to have any other choice. While out they run into Ayu and Yuuichi introduces her to Akiko, who seems shocked to see her.
• At home, after eating and some tension between Yuuichi and Makoto over his wallet, we find out Nayuki picked it up because Yuuichi dropped it. Yuuichi apologizes to Makoto, but says she is still at fault as well. Makoto says some things such as she isn’t mistaken about Yuuichi and hating him, she doesn’t remember anything but being near him she is starting to remember a few things. Akiko says then it’s settled, Makoto stays with them.
• Before going to bed, Nayuki asks Yuuichi for her notes back. He says he forgot them at school and when she starts to whine he says he will go to school and get them. He heads over to school and finds a girl with a sword in the hallways. She charges at him with the word but jumps over his shoulder and slashes at air. We see this seeming to cut some plan and a monster appears with a void around it. She slashes again and defeats the monster and walks way form Yuuichi who is just speechless at seeing this. The girl just says to him that she is one who defeats monsters.

Impressions:

Although for the most part this episode dealt entirely with Makoto, they didn’t really give much more info on her at all. All we find out is that, we don’t know anything about her. That she herself doesn’t know because she appears to have amnesia, and no friends, and hates Yuuichi. With the end of this episode it seems as if they will keep Makoto in the background a bit, dealing with her and the mystery about her later on in the series or a little bit throughout.

Akiko’s reaction to seeing Ayu was a bit odd. They seemed to focus on it a lot for it to just be a normal reaction, it’s as if Akiko recognizes Ayu but it seemed to be a bit more then that. See spoilers for more.

We get the first appearance of something supernatural in this episode, which will be a theme carried throughout but so far at the end of this episode is the first time we saw anything. Like last episode, the ending sequence is really there as a cliffhanger to get you interested in next episode, so they didn’t really explain much about the girl with the sword at the school (go Mai!) or the huge monster thing that appeared but it does lead into a more eventful series.

So far there isn’t any fox resemblance in Makoto. Remembering back I’m not sure if they ever really foreshadowed or hinted that Makoto was a fox, but so far they haven’t shown her acting like one or hinting at any fox like behaviors, they just have the outstanding mystery of whom she is and why she can’t remember anything.

One thing that I notice, although I was specifically looking for it, was Akiko’s reaction to seeing Ayu. Akiko must have been able to remember something as big as Ayu’s fall from the past and her reaction was as such. Although again they didn’t make a big deal about, they did show it for a while, Yuuichi even asked what was wrong so it was fairly important to set up some mystery behind if there is something there, although it does a good job of just hinting at mystery and not exactly specifying anything.

One thing that they didn’t emphasize much in this episode was that Ayu was searching for something she lost. Now honestly, I don’t remember what it was she lost but I remember it was fairly important and it was more then just some material thing. I’m thinking it might be the doll that was supposed to be able to grant wishes that she got from Yuuichi when she was a kid. I’m pretty sure whatever it is it’s important to the whole Ayu in a comma thing.
