Zero no Tsukaima - 12

Saito heads out with Siesta to investigate a dragon sealed away by Siesta’s great-grandfather who came from Saito’s world, while Louise deals with her feelings for Saito and about what recently happened between them.

Summary:

  • Louise tells Henrietta of what happened to the prince and with Ward. She apologizes but Henrietta just says its ok, the two of them crying hold each other for comfort.
  • Louise gives her report to Osmen about what happened, and learns about what a Void Sorcerer is. She finds out she is a Void Sorcerer, a one of a kind element that is legendary. It is why she was able to summon Gundalfr as her familiar, and Louise learns of Saito’s true potential in power.
  • Saito is with Louise in her room and they get into a fight because the elastic on her panties broke and it was Saito’s fault. They yell at each other and so Saito heeds out. He talks with Siesta and learns that she is taking a trip home and after learning more and remembering she said her great-grandfather came from another world, he asks to go with her when he learns of how her great grandfather rode one of the two dragons that appeared.
  • Saito heads out with Siesta and Louise sees him go off. When she asks the chef where Siesta went she recognizes the name of the town as the place Professor Colbert was going to investigate the dragon was well. Siesta and Saito arrive at her town and Siesta gets a map to where the dragon is.
  • Kirche, Guiche, and Tabitha all appear, having followed Saito and wanting to investigate the treasure too. They all head through a cave, following there map, where they run into Colbert and Louise. They all go tighter until they emerge in a small valley with a barn.
  • As Colbert opens the barn, Saito sees a tombstone with Japanese written on it and is able to read it much to everyone’s surprise. Inside the barn they find the “dragon” which is an old war plane.
  • Colbert says with this Saito might be able to go back to his own world. He says how there were two dragons, one flew into the solar eclipse and disappeared and the other missed the chance and was forced here. If Saito drove the plane into the next solar eclipse then he could go back to his home world, which shocks Louise.
  • They take the plane back to the school
  • Guiche arrives with news and tells Louise how Albion has been completely taken over and Reconquista has declared war on Torstein, the country they live in. We see Reconquista, consisting of Cromwell, Ward, and Fouquet all planning their attack, on the day of the solar eclipse.

Impressions:

Wow, this series is defiantly getting exciting. I loved this episode, it was amazing. Not only was there a huge amount of excitement about the whole finding a plane and showing there is a huge artifact from Saito’s world, there was a lot of tension and excitement over which way the relationship between Louise and Saito will go. I’m glad they didn’t’ have a fight over the kiss or anything, showing that it was indeed important. Thought this whole episode Louise was thinking of Saito, kind of admitting a bit to herself she liked him as she was getting worked up about him leaving.

The real focus I think, or at least the most interesting one, is going to be whether Saito stays or leaves. Although I defiantly think that Saito will stay, it is defiantly going to be an exciting focus and it will be deeply influenced by the feelings of everyone. I loved how they showed Louise’s feelings towards Saito going, actually showing her reaction instead of saving that till the last moment.

My solid theory and guess as to how the last episode will play out is that Saito will use the plane to fight off Reconquista, because of that not having too much time to go into the solar eclipse. However he will choose to stay with Louise. The reason he doesn’t go back isn’t because he can’t or he has to fight them off, it’s because he wants to stay with Louise.

On a smaller note they finally confirmed about Louise being void. Up until now they didn’t rally state it as a fact, just gave concrete enough facts. They said some things about what void was and Cromwell addressed her as such, but in this episode Louise herself finds out her potential.

Defiantly? Sorry, the nitpicker in me just couldn’t let it slide…

I’m somewhat concerned that Saito is going to make the stereotypical “save the kingdom but trap himself forever” heroic gesture. I’m also concerned that rather than hooking up with Siesta, he’ll leave himself permanently attached to Louise, who I just cannot bring myself to think of as a sympathetic character. Considering that Saito is, for me, one of the most appealing male leads in a recent harem/adventure comedy (or however you would like to describe this genre, and by “appealing” I mean that I don’t want to strangle him every time he’s on screen), I fear that things are gearing up for a highly unsatisfactory, somewhat predictable end.

I know I shouldn’t expect too much from a series that lays out the character cliches as brazenly as Zero no Tsukaima does, but I’ve really enjoyed this series so far and would hate to be let down at the last minute.

Although like I’ve posted I think that Saito will end up staying in the current world, I don’t think he will be “trapped” there as you have said. I think that it will be more like a choice on his part because he wants to stay with Louise.

As for Siesta, I never thought for once that there was a slight chance of Saito ending up with her. I rather like Louise’s character. I”m not saying she is more attractive or anything like that, but I do find that lately she has shown good character development. I hope for Saiot and Louise to end up togheter, although it will likly be soem thing wwhre they are togheter but things are a little bit the same with them fighting all the time.

Oh, I didn’t seriously expect a Saito/Siesta happy-happy love-love ending either, but a man can hope. A Saito/Louise continuously-argumentative state of conflict is the less satisfactory (for me), more obvious (for making sequels and such) option, and the one that should have been assumed by the end of the first opening credits.
