Haseo is going about his usual routine, killing PKers when during an argument with a guild leader Sakaki, he sees Ovan and goes to talk to him, where he is led to the Cathedral for a fateful encounter.

Summary:

  • Haseo goes on killing more PKers, including Bordeaux we saw from last episode. We hear from Pai and Yata that Ovan is on the move and we see him teleporting into town.
  • Touta is talking with Phyllo about how Haseo is now called the Terror of Death. Phyllo says it doesn’t matter because as long as someone wants to change back and start over, they can.
  • Haseo teleports in and Phyllo is waiting for him. Phyllo tries to get him to stop, and talks to him. Asking if Shino was around if she would like Haseo being “The Terror of Death” Haseo says it doesn’t matter what she thinks, he is going to save her, and leaves Phyllo there.
  • Haseo is in town and having an argument with a guild leader named Sakaki. Everyone is gathered around to see the argument between the legendary Haseo and some famous guild leader. Haseo however sees Ovan in town and runs off away from Sakaki to catch up with Ovan.
  • Haseo and Ovan talk in the waterfall place Ovan saying how Haseo has become much stronger then he was. Haseo tries to ask Ovan where he has been, how he could have left the Twilight Brigade to fall, and about what happened to Shino. Ovan just says to Haseo that Tri Edge will return today, to the stage of that tragedy (Ok, technically the fansubbers didn’t say this but this is his line in the game and its cooler) Haseo gets all giddy about Tri Edge coming back and his chance to fight him. Ovan says he will be at the Cathedral, and goes off saying they will meet there later.
  • Haseo goes to the cathedral where Saburou is hiding because he wants to watch Haseo. Just then some lights start to gather and tri Edge appears before Haseo. The two of them fight, Haseo getting his ass kicked. Eventually, Tri Edge Data Drains Haseo and he screams in pain as data surrounds him.
  • Pai, Yata, and Kuhn are watching this on their screens and eventually Haseo disappears and the data swirl vanishes.
  • Touta comes to the cathedral after all this has happened to find Saburou there in shock. Saburou tells Touta how Haseo has been erased.

Impressions:

Hahaa, this episode was amazingly awesome. I’m so happy they overlapped the anime and the game, Haseo’s fight with Tri Edge, although drastically differently played out in game and anime was still cool. Although, I prefer the game fight because Tri Edge was much cooler, not moving his feet and blocking Haseo’s barrage of attacks. Anyways, it’s really cool that they included his Data Drain, and Pai even used the word Data Drain when talking about what was happening.

I’m surprised t how much this episode was basically G.U. From my understanding and from reading the G.U. manga, this entire episode is like the start of G.U. Pretty much all that was in this episode is in G.U., although they focused on different things, timeline wise the anime and game are overlaying now.

According to the game at this point in time Kuhn should be able to fully use Magus and Haseo should have met Atoli. Although things they didn’t show, they did include a part in the game where Haseo was talking with Atoli, his argument with Sakaki, they just didn’t show it. As for Kuhn, although right now it isn’t important he should be able to use Magus as early in the game he uses it to save Haseo. Maybe they will show that in the next two episodes, as things are already overlapping.

Ok, on a side note I think that this episode shows that Tabby does NOT become Atoli. If the anime stays to what G.U. was like, at this point in the story Haseo has already met Atoli. In fact, according to G.U. when it showed Haseo overlooking Bordeaux, he saves Atoli from them. Then he argues with Sakai like they showed in this anime. At the time he was arguing with Sakaki, Atoli should have been by Sakaki’s side. Now, when this was happening Tabby was already there so she can’t be him.

I think they went a good way with not showing exactly the same thing as in G.U. Although basically this whole episode is the beginning of G.U., they focused more on other characters like Touta and Saburou rather then on Atoli and Sakai which by now Haseo should have met with.

One more side note, SHOW ENDRANCE DAMNIT! The two are already overlapping, and Haseo meets Endrance in the early part of G.U., its how he awakens. My hope is that the anime will end where the first volume of the manga ends, with Haseo awakening during his fight with Endrance.

The guy Haseo has an argument with is called Sakaki, he’s the leader of the second platoon of the Moon Tree Guild and widely considered to be more popular than the Guildmaster; Keyaki.

Secondly, the GU manga is non-canon and while the events at the beginning of it are fairly similar, Haseo does PK Bordeaux and co., meets Sakaki, meets Ovan, goes to cathedral, etc. I’m afraid Haseo encounters Endrance much later into the game than in the manga.

I know it’s Sakaki, although I guess I mystyped about him being the guildmaster, I know that he is important none the less. I know enough about G.U besides the manga about who Sakaki is and in realtion with his views on everthing and his place in his guild.

As for the differences in the manga and the game, it’s still for the most part similar, although I guess he won’t meet Endrance in the anime since he doens’t meet him early in the game. They can at least like show a two second clip of him standing somewhere overlooking something dramatically :D
