Utawarerumono - 25

Hakuoro goes with everyone to rescue Kamyu, trying to get her back. They are stopped by Mutsumi, who tries to fight them off, and we learn more about Hakuoro’s past and the history of the world as Hakuoro goes further into the place of the Onkamiya.

Summary:

  • Hakuoro is talking with Urutorii and learns that Mutsumi is some ancestor of the Onkamiya that lied dormant in Kamyu. Kamyu should still be alive, and Urutorii asks Hakuoro to save Kamyu’s soul.
  • Hakuoro plans on going out to rescue Kamyu, along the way trying to say he will go by himself but everyone not letting him, so everyone tags along, including Aruruu and Eruruu.
  • Eventually everyone reaches the homeland of the Onkamiya where Mutsumi, who is the key to getting back Kamyu, is. Urutorii opens some door from it, a bunch of red blobs come out. They see Kamyu who turns into Mutsumi. Mutsumi tells them she will not let them any further.
  • Everyone fights off the red blobs, and eventually Hakuoro, Eruruu, and Aruruu chase after Mutsumi who goes further down though the door Urutorii opened.
  • They get to a sealed door and all of a sudden Eruruu’s hair ring starts to glow and it responds with the door, opening it.
  • We see a flashback to Hakuoro with short hair, being called Iceman by a hologram. The hologram says how they are planning on freezing Hakuoro again but he lets Hakuoro escape along with Mikoto, as she seems to have grown fond of him. Hakuoro and Mikoto escape to the outside, along with all the other test subjects.
  • Hakuoro, Eruruu, and Aruruu emerge in a cave which Hakuoro finds familiar to the research facility we saw in the flashbacks. Mutsumi is there and tries to stop them, firing blasts at Hakuoro. Eventually Aruruu stands in front of Hakuoro to protect him, saying not to do it, Kamyu.
  • Mutsumi falls to the floor, holding her head and Dii appears saying that’s enough. Dii and Hakuoro talks, Hakuoro asking how Dii could do such a thing as pulling the strings behind wars and making people suffer. Dii just says he makes contracts with people to help them for a price, just like Hakuoro did with Eruruu. He also says that Hakuoro just uses defense as an excuse to kill people, as we see flashbacks to all the deaths of people thought the series, good and bad.
  • Eruruu says how she isn’t here because of the contract; she is here because of her own will. Dii says enough, that he doesn’t want to see Hakuoro, he wins. Dii says how they aren’t supposed to meet before going to sleep, he wanted to have a battle with him but his plans were screwed up or something and he lost his last piece.
  • Hakuoro thanks Eruruu for all she has done for him, and steps towards Dii saying their contract is broken, she is free. Hakuoro transforms, saying to Dii how he will destroy him. Dii transforms too, turning into the same beast but different colors. They burst out of the cave they are in, emerging outside where everyone sees them. Some wonder what those monsters are and Karura says they are the gods, Witsaurenemitea.

Impressions:

I think I have it figured out for the most part Hakuoro’s history. First came the flashback of Hakuoro being shot. This was set in the earliest times, but around present times or a bit into the future. Hakuoro stumbled across the fossil of half of Witsaurenemitea. Him being shot caused him to be absorbed into the fossil. Then, something happened to drastically change the world, very likely including ice. The fossil was then found, and because Hakuoro was in the fossil or the fossil itself turned into the humanoid form, Hakuoro was found in the ice, hence the name Iceman. Then, we saw the couple of flashbacks to Hakuoro during this. We learned from this episode that the surface must be different, because as the hologram said normal humans can’t live above ground. Only the new race we saw which were all the different eared people, and Hakuoro because he is special. Hakuoro escapes as we saw in this flashback. So far, that is all I have gathered. There is still the mystery of what exactly happened between Hakuoro being shot and awakening as Iceman. That is if my theory is even correct, they didn’t defiantly state anything but right now that’s what I’m thinking. The other mystery being about what happened after he was released, what happened between him and Mikoto and what happened to Mikoto herself.

I’m still a bit unsure about what the whole thing was between Dii and Hakuoro talking about going to sleep. Dii said how the two of them aren’t supposed to meet before going to sleep. My best guess is that there is a competition between Hakuoro and Dii as to who gets to be in charge. The god Witsaurenemitea is two people, however usually only one being rules over people so Dii and Hakuoro compete to see who gets to be it. Just because one won doesn’t mean the other goes away, he goes to sleep until they challenge each other again. Especially since Dii talked about Hakuoro winning, and winning control of the world.

Ok, so about the Witsaurenemitea thing. Basically I got the impression from this episode that it is very similar to the whole Etoile thing, for those of you who have seen Strawberry Panic, in a way. Such as, Witsaurenemitea is two people, Hakuoro and Dii. It is not one being. In other words, Hakuoro is half of Witsaurenemitea but he is not half of one being. He is one person, and Dii is another, they are not the same person, just together they make up two beings that are considered as one god. However, depending on the whole competition between Dii and Hakuoro, perhaps Wit is supposed to only be one god, and they compete to see how gets to be it.

Mutsumi is less of a mystery in this episode, but I’m still really unsure about her. Urutorii said that Mutsumi is their ancestor or something, that she was based down in blood throughout their race, and ended up showing up in Kamyu. I’m still unsure of the connection between Dii and Mutsumi, perhaps the whole “father” thing isn’t a real blood relation, like how Aruruu calls Hakuoro father. Still, basically Mutsumi is some ancestor of the winged people that lied dormant in Kamyu. If nothing happened and Kamyu spent her life like normal, then the gene of the ancestor would just be passed on it sounds like.

Ok, now there is even a bigger mystery behind Eruruu. Why did her hair ring thin unlock the doors? My best guess, and I’m really pretty sure on this, is that she is related to Mikoto. First, when the present Hakuoro was watching his flashback and saw Mikoto’s face he said Eruruu, in question. So their faces are obviously similar to him at least. Second, the ring opened up the door to the research facility place, which is where Mikoto was. It could easily have been handed down in generations to Eruruu.

Although this does bring up something very weird. If Eruruu is say Mikoto’s great granddaughter, which means Mikoto’s daughter would be Tusukuru, and then it makes it a little odd for anything romantic to happen between Eruruu and Hakuoro. I mean, not that weird, it doesn’t bother me or anything, just a thought that came up because the likely father, if Mikoto is the mother, would be Hakuoro because they were close. However it is easily entirely possible that nothing happened between Mikoto and Hakuoro, Mikoto still being Eruruu’s ancestor, but her male ancestor being someone besides Hakuoro.

On a slightly different note I want to point out how pleasantly surprised I was with Aruruu in this episode. She was freaking amazing. First off saying with such confidence that she has to come with him, that he will be in danger without her. And second, she was the only one who actually attacked Mutsumi. While everyone else was concentrating on attacking those blob things, she had Mukuru attack Mutsumi herself.
