Ok, over the summer my friend went to Japan. I told him some anime that were currently airing when I saw him before he left. I gave him some money and he ended up buying me four mangas from Japanese, in Japanese of course. I got the two Suzumiya Haruhi mangas, an Utawarerumono manga, and a non-H doujin of Fate/Stay Night.
Now, I know about the two Haruhi ones, and I found out enough info about the Fate/Stay Night one to figure out that it’s a doujin and there are a LOT of officially looking, but still comedy/chibi manga and then an official manga. However, I’m rather confused about the Utawarerumono manga I got which is what this post is about.
Ok, so above is a picture of the cover and back of the Utawarerumono manga I got. He said he couldn’t find vol. one so he just got me the second one. Now, this defiantly seems to be, as you can see from a couple of pictures below, that this is still a comedy/side story manga about Uta. However, what I’m unsure of is how official it is. The Haruhi manga is going in my list of official manga, and the Fate one I got isn’t because its fan made. However I don’t know what to do with this one.
The Uta manga isn’t listed on ANN or anything, however on the Wiki for Uta it does mention how there is a manga of it (the Wiki for Fate doesn’t mention the doujin so I think Uta is at least more official then the Fate one I have). SO THE QUESTION IS, how official is this manga? How much does everyone know about the Utawarerumono manga? I could find for sale online vol. 1, and I have 2, and I also found on Yes Asia vol. 5….. yet I haven’t found anywhere even a mention of 3-4, so does anyone know what’s up with that?
Also, just because it is a comedy/side story version doesn’t necisarily mean it’s not offical. I dont need it to be super super 100% authentic, I just want to make sure its not a doujin like the Fate one I got.
So again, please PLEASE comment or contact me if you know anything about this, about how official it is, how many volumes, where I can find vol. 3-4

There is an official manga for Utawarerumono (being scanlated currently starting from volume 1), and the volume you have there looks somewhat official.. Maybe the mangaka just… gave up? XD
That looks like one of those doujin anthologies… pretty much fan material, but cute nonetheless.

I’m sure that the pics you have aren’t from the official manga. The official manga is serialised in Dengeki G’s magazine, the author is Shimagusa Arou, and it consists of comedy/side stories. So far, only one volume has been released. Info and pic of volume 1 cover is up on Wikipedia. You can get scanlations for the official manga at kawaiiheavens.net or #kawaii-heavens@rizon
I’m pretty sure the Uta manga was published in S. Korea, so it wouldnt be categorized at manga right? The one you got was probably just translated to japanese.
OO!!! Utawarerumono!!! It’s originally a Hentai-Game. There is an anime based off of it, also. Not a lot of hentai is in it. Actually, there is basically none at all.
It’s an EXCELLENT series. It’s actually my favorite anime!
