Louise, Saito and Guiche go out on a journey accompanied by an escort from Louise’s past, Ward, when they are asked by Henrietta to retrieve something.

Summary:
- Henrietta asks Saito and Louise to recover some letter that she sent to some country. She is about to get married, political marriage only, and needs the letter as it may break the union. Guiche overhears them and he offers his help so he tags along.
- Saito goes to see Colbert, the teacher, and he asks him what Gundalfr is, remembering the water spirit called him that. Colbert says there are really five elements, one of them being Void, however there is no documentation in this time that a Void sorcerer exists. The familiar that belongs to the fabled void sorcerer is Gundalfr.
- The next morning the three of them are waiting for an escort that will take them to the town they need to go. Eventually, on a griffon, arrives a man whom Louise recognizes. He identifies himself as Ward, their escort, and says how he is Louise’s fiancé.
- They all travel to town and when they arrive, Louise talks to Saito seeing as he looks upset and tries to explain the whole fiancée thing was something their parents arranged. Louise heads off and seeing all this, Saito’s sword says how Saito has a crush on Louise. He says he doesn’t but the sword just says sure.
- At dinner, Ward is talking and says to Saito how he heard he defeated Guiche and used the Staff of Destruction to capture Fouquet. He says he wants to have a duel with him later and Saito accepts. They head off to bed, Louise and Ward going to the same room even though Louise is embarrassed, Ward saying they are engaged after all.
- Saito is in his room and he asks his sword about Gundalfr. He learns from the sword that he himself is Gundalfr, that he can use any weapon expertly, but only something made to be a weapon. Which is why the gold decoration sword didn’t do anything. He says his partner 6000 years ago was Gundalfr, and the same is now.
- Ward is talking with Louise and says how they should get married when this is all over. Louse seems really unsure, saying how it’s sudden and all. Ward closes in to kiss her, saying he will protect her, the same thing Saito said right before the night of their trip. She says Saito’s name and Ward looks surprised, backing away saying he sees someone else is already in her heart, however he will win her over. He then heads out saying he will get a separate room.
- The next day at the duel, Ward and Saito fight. However Saito isn’t able to do anything to Ward and Ward easily defeats Saito. He says to Saito, who is on the ground how he will never be able to beat a real mage, he can’t protect Louise.
Impressions:
Ok, I think it’s fairly obvious that Ward is evil. He is Cromwell that was mentioned in the previous episode. After all, Cromwell wears some weird muzzle thing, why else would his mask consist of a muzzle if not to hide the goatee that we see Ward has? Also Ward knew things like Saito’s duel with Guiche, and that he used the Staff of Destruction. Normally someone wouldn’t know that kind of stuff so he likely learned it from Fouquet who was there to witness all those things, as Fouquet is working with Cromwell.
The big thing in this episode I thought was the whole dealing with what exactly the relationship between Saito and Louise is. From both sides we saw that they have feelings for each other, although there hasn’t been any admitting of it yet, not even to themselves. Louise blushed when Saito said he would protect her and thought of him when Ward was about to kiss her. She also kept looking back at Saito on the ride to town when ward was talking to her. As for Saito, he obviously seemed jealous about Ward and the whole fiancé thing. He also got extremely pissed when Ward said how he can’t protect Louise with the power he has.
I know I mentioned last episode about the void element, but this time they actually brought it up in the episode. I think it’s fairly obvious now that Louise is the Void Sorcerer and she just doesn’t know who to use her powers and so on which is why she isn’t very good. That would confirm Saito being Gundalfr as it fits with what he can do.
One small note that they didn’t touch on much but may come back later on, is the mention of the dragons. When Saito was talking with the teacher, he mentioned how two dragons appeared, one disappeared and the other was killed and that’s where he got this blood. The mention of the dragon that disappeared has me thinking that it will come into play later on.
i’m thinking either airplanes or fighter jets, and thats why the dragon blood is brown: gasoline. That would explain why saito finds the smell strange
i agree its definately a plane it explains the soldier who claimed to have 2 staff of destruction
