.hack//Roots - 21

Haseo finds out about a player who witnessed and survived a fight with Tri Edge and tries to question her about her encounter.

Summary:

  • Tabby is talking with Touta and she is wondering, again, what she can do. Touta says that she should start a guild. So Tabby agrees to try.
  • We see a player with long black hair being challenged to a fight by a couple of no name players. We saw her earlier; briefly, beat up teleporting into town saying Tri Edge. Haseo appears though and the no name people head off and Haseo asks her what she knows about Tri Edge. We find out that this player is named Midori and she sells fights against her because of how strong she is. Haseo fights her but isn’t able to defeat him in the time allotted so the fight ends and Midori heads away.
  • Tabby is with the white haired guy and he says that he will help her with her guild which she says is to help people, to help Haseo and those killed by him and so on.
  • Yata and Pai are researching Midori and find out that she supposedly witnessed a fight between Tri Edge and another player and survived one herself. They look at the logs seeing the fight she viewed was the one between Ovan and Tri Edge.
  • Pai visits with Touta’s merchant friends and tells them of Midori. When Touta comes back they relay the information to him about how she is a survivor and witnessed a fight.
  • Touta questions Midori about the information, and asks who it was that she saw fight him. She says she doesn’t know, but he defeated him it seemed. Touta relays this information to Haseo, telling him how someone defeated Tri Edge. Haseo goes all emo, more then he was before, asking who it was. He says he doesn’t know, the one who knows is the survivor, Midori.
  • Haseo finds her and attacks her, telling her to remember who it was she saw fight Tri Edge. She says she doesn’t want to remember and the two of them fight. They seem evenly matched and Haseo does really well against Midori but is eventually defeated and heads away saying he isn’t strong enough to take Tri Edge’s place.
  • Pai and Yata see this, saying they guess it hasn’t awakened.

Impressions:

Honesty the ending seemed a bit out of place. I mean, I don’t hate the fact that Haseo died or anything and I think it’s likely important that he realizes he has no chance against Tri Edge as of now. Although it just ended with a final strike and Midori walked off. I’m not sure exactly what they could have done, but it seemed a bit odd. Midori herself though was a great character.

Ok, well I kind of figured that Haseo would loose just from the preview for this episode and the rate at which he was doing things. I also knew that his Avatar wouldn’t awaken, because it awakens in the first G.U. guild when he is fighting Endrance. However, the question is why did it awaken when he was almost defeated going against Endrance, and not in this fight. My best guess is because he wasn’t properly motivated in this fight. Before the fight against Endrance, Ovan tells Atoli to tell Haseo to become stronger in order to save Shino. This mention of Shino has got to set something off in him that corresponds to what Skeith is about and leading to his awakening, in this fight he wasn’t even so much doing it because Shino died, he just wanted to go after TriEdge, although I would think that this fight would have awoken his Avatar if he had Tarvos, but with Skeith I guess he needed something different.

Another thing that I liked in this episode, and it’s not just in this episode but they talked about it a bit more, is Saburou’s metaphors. I thought they were hilarious how she kept using metaphors and Pai is saying how she is tired of them, and how surprising it was she understood one of them. I just think it’s a cool thing that Saburou does talking in all the metaphors.

One thing that was fairly small but I really liked was the fact that Haseo actually changed his weapons. Since his transformation into what he has become, he has only used the scythe. Which is fine, the scythe is awesome, but he being a Multi weapon never really made a difference until this fight he showed fighting with all three types.

A couple things about the preview for next episode; one is the whole deal with Tabby’s guild. Now this seemed a little out of place I thought for how the mood has shifted. Tabby and the other two that start the guild are in some stupid looking costumes and it just seems out of place. We also see Kuhn standing before a guild house area. Now this is important to the story actually because Kuhn is the one who starts the guild Canard which is in G.U. Then we see something that appears to be AIDA. AIDA is like the main focus of G.U. and they haven’t really dealt with it yet so hopefully they will do a bit with it before Roots is over.
