Xenosaga III – Prologue

Shion attempts to find and take information on some of Vector’s secrets.

Summary:

  • We see a flashback of what we can assume is Shion as a kid. She is with her mother in Gnosis controlled Old Militia. They make their way to a building and her mother puts her in some escape pod by herself. She screams how she doesn’t want to leave her, but her mother knowing this is the only way to save her keeps her there. She then sees her mother killed by a gnosis before her and the pod is shot away.
  • Shion, Miyuki, Canaan and Doctus are making their way though some city, fighting off mecha’s in their E.S. They land and make their way though a complex while Doctus stays in her E.S. to keep watch. They are trying to infiltrate Vector somewhere. Shion and the other two make it though the various levels of the complex until they get to the server where the information they are after is.
  • They get to the final area and Canaan starts to download data they need. Miyuki asks why they are trying to get information about the U.M.N. Shion asks if Miyuki knows how the U.M.N came about. She says no and basically Shion says no one does. They use it all the time and it’s a complex network but it just seems to have been there.
  • We also find out that Shion suspects that the Gnosis may not have been called by Mizrahi, that there is some connection to the U.M.N. and therefore with Vector, so it’s possible that Vector is responsible for the Gnosis. She also says since KOS MOS was constructed through vector there may be an alterior motive in her programming.
  • After they get the information needed, some Gnosis attack them. They defeat them and with the help of Doctus they escape. They cut their connection to the server from their dive. Shion appears in some islands, contacting the others to see if everything was fine. Miyuki and Canaan say how everything is fine; they got the information they needed.
  • Shion gets news from Allen that Vector decided to cancel KOS MOS project, she is being transferred to the military and the military is going to oversee the development of a new model.
  • We see a flashback to Shion telling Allen she is quitting. Apparently because she feels at fault for some Gnosis terrorism but Allen says it was that Grimoire guy who caused it. (omg, not Vincent Valentine’s father! They are crossing games! :D)
  • We see Wilhelm and Red Testament talking, saying how some data leaked. Wilhelm just says it doesn’t matter. They talk about “her” and that her interaction with KOS MOS has caused a problem. Red says he will take care of her.

Impressions:

Ok, I titled the previous post Prologue earlier but found out this chapter is actually titled Prologue so I changed the old one to Beginnings, this is not the same post as before.

I thought the whole talk about the possibility of Vector creating the Gnosis was really interesting and something I hadn’t really thought of before. I guess I never thought where the Gnosis came from and Vector being responsible for their appearance makes things more interesting, showing even more the possibility of Vector being and evil organization.

Also, they didn’t talk about this too much but Shion said how there may be some ulterior motive in KOS MOS because it was created by Vector and is connected to the U.M.N or something. It brings the possibility of something happening late on like something awakening in her, causing problems.

I’m pretty sure that the Red Testament that I didn’t know before is Kevin. The Kevin that Shion had feelings for and who was killed by KOS MOS before the first game. The main reason is because of the voice, but besides that there is other evidence such as him seeming to know Shion, telling Wilhelm things like she has a good wavelength, and telling him how he will personally take care of her. That implies how they had some sort of prior relationship, and would fit because Kevin died and the Testaments appear to be dead people.

The kid at the start of the game in the grainy flashback is actually young Kevin (check the haircut, for one thing) rather than Shion – I mean, it was established all the way back in Episode I that Shions mother was killed by Realiens under the effect of the Song of Nephilim in front of Shion (we saw this stuff during the dive into KOS-MOS) so it really couldn’t be her in this situation anyway.

That makes sense now that I think back. At least I said soemthing along the lines of I think it’s Shion :D
