Zero no Tsukaima - 08

Its summer vacation and Kirche accompanies Tabitha to her house far away and we learn about her past, meanwhile Saito and Siesta get a bit closer much to Louise’s jealousy.

Summary:

We start off seeing Saito and Louise arriving back at the school on horseback. They run into Tabitha and Kirche who are getting into a wagon. Kirche tells them that she is going with Tabitha to her house in some other country. We see Kirche and Tabitha in the wagon, Tabitha paying no attention to Kirche and just reading her book. Kirche tries to talk to her, saying how the countryside is beautiful. She says she didn’t know she was a foreigner like her. She had to leave her country and school because she was a nuisance. Hearing this Tabitha looks up form her book. Kirche says how she was so popular with the guys that it caused problems so they sent her away. Back at the school, Louise orders Saito to do a bunch of things, gives him loads of laundry to do and tells him to clean her room. Saito grudgingly agrees and carries her laundry off. He takes them outside to wash where he sees Guiche and Montmorency arguing. Montmorency is saying how she doesn’t have any feelings for him and he should just drop it. Saito just smiles and says they will never change. He then notices a large tub against the wall. He goes and asks the head chef guy if he can have it and of course he is given it, as Saito is his hero and such. Back with Kirche and Tabitha, Kirche asks when they are going to get to her house and Tabitha says soon. Kirche notices some signs along the road they travel that has a royal family crest on it. She looks shocked and asks Tabitha if she is from a royal family. Tabitha just continues reading her book however. They finally arrive at Tabitha’s house which is a huge mansion. They are greeted by a butler who greets them, and calls Tabitha Charlotte. They get inside and Kirche tells her that she wants to greet her father. Tabitha just nods no and tells her to wait there and heads off.

Kirche waits and sees a big portrait n the wall of what looks to be Tabitha’s father. The butler comes in and we find out that Tabitha is indeed a member of this royal family. The butler again calls Tabitha Charlotte and Kirche seems surprised. We see Tabitha walk down a hallway and open the door to a large room with a huge open window facing the outside. In a chair sits a rather old crazy looking woman with blue hair. She asks who it is and Tabitha comes in and bows before her, saying she just got home, mother. Her mom just kind of freaks out, and tightly hugs a doll she is holding and says to get back you rude fellow but Tabitha just stays there with her head down, seemingly expecting this. The butler starts explaining to Kirche about Tabitha. He says that her uncle is the king of this country. Kirche asks if her father passed away and the butler nods no, and says that he was murdered. Back with Tabitha, her mom is yelling at Tabitha if she is going to take her charlotte away like they did with her husband. The butler tells Kirche that there were two heirs to the throne, Tabitha’s father was the youngest but was more skilled in magic and more popular. The country was divided on who should take the throne when the old king died. Then Tabitha’s father was murdered, leaving the other heir to take the throne. However the people who killed her father also targeted Tabitha, wanting to eliminate a possibility of some future problem. One night Tabitha and her mother were at a party. Tabitha was given a drink and her mother noticed that the man who gave it to her kind of grinned evilly. Before Tabitha drank it she grabbed it and drank it herself. The butler says that there was a spell put on the drink that causes the person who drank its mind to go permanently insane. We see Tabitha with her mother, her mother rants saying how you think my daughter Charlotte will be targeted again, no, and you won’t take her away. Her mother starts hugging and cradling the doll. Tabitha gets up and says she will be back, and leaves. The butler says that Tabitha is the name of the doll which Tabitha’s mother gave to her, and when the event happened Tabitha gave it to her and her mother has treated it as her. He says that Tabitha used to be a lively and energetic person but ever since then she has become quiet and isolated. The butler continues, saying that after that event with Tabitha’s mother the ones targeting Tabitha vanished. Instead the royal family gave her a task that was seemingly impossible and would kill her. Tabitha took it on however, going up a mountain in a storm and defeating some huge dragon. Tabitha accomplished the challenge Kirche asks why Tabitha was sent abroad to study at her school and the butler says she was treated like a nuisance by the royal family and they wanted her out of the country.

Back at school, we see Montmorency making some potion and grinning, saying that this will get him. Its night time and we see Saito sitting in the tub he found earlier. He turned it into a bath, putting wood on the bottom and a fire underneath as he sits in the water relaxing, saying how it’s been so long since he’s had a nice bath like this. Saito goes underwater briefly and Siesta sees this strange pot with fire underneath it and goes over to investigate. She leans over the edge and Saito pops out, causing Siesta to fall back, breaking a dish and spilling something on her clothes. Saito apologizes and Siesta asks what he is doing. He says it’s a bath like they have in his country. Saito jokingly asks if she wants to join him and he says sure much to his shock. She starts taking off her clothes and Saito covers his eyes in embarrassment. Siesta says it’s ok because Saito isn’t’ the kind to do a perverted thing. Meanwhile we see Montmorency outside at a table with drinks and a vial that she hides. Guiche arrives and the two of them sit down together. Saito and Siesta eventually get to talking after Saito overcome by being embarrassed. Siesta says it’s ok because it dark and he won’t be able to see anything anyways. Siesta asks what his country is like and he starts explaining how it has one moon, no magicians, electricity… Siesta just thinks he is teasing her and Saito kind of laughs it of, not trying to convince her he is from another world. Guiche and Mont are sitting together when hey see Louise come out into the courtyard, stomping along. We see her grumbling to herself, asking what Saito could be doing taking so long. Louise sees Saito and Siesta together and is shocked, kind of walking backwards saying how it can’t’ be. Siesta tells Saito how he reminds her of her grandfather. He used to tell her stories of how he came from another word and fell from the sky one day. Saito seems surprised and tries to question her but she gets out saying she has to go. She says the water was great but she enjoyed him the most. Louise is stomping off saying how Saito could do something lie this. She stops asking herself why she is getting so worked up over this. She goes over to Guiche and Mont’s table where Mont has put the whatever potion in Guiche drink. Louise however grabs Guiche’s drink and gulps it down saying she needs this and storms inside, much to Mont’s surprise and horror. We then see Saito getting back to Louise’s room as she waits for him. She asks where he has been, and starts saying emotionally, asking why he was with Siesta instead of her. She acts rather drunk like, not like herself at all. Saito asks what the matter and she says nothing and starts softly hitting him calling him an idiot. She asks why he left her alone all this time. She then hugs him and Saito looks confused as hell, asking if this is a joke. She says how can this be a joke when she love shim this much, and starts crying. Saito is just shocked not knowing what to do and Mont comes in saying how she knew this would happen. Back with Tabitha, Kirche sits in a chair in her room watching her sleep. We flashback to Tabitha getting some kind of order. She tells the butler that she will take care of it tomorrow and Kirche asks if that’s what they came here for. She nods yes and Kirche says she is coming with her; she heard about her story and can’t let her go alone. Tabitha starts stirring in her sleep, yelling out no mother, don’t drink it. Kirche gets yup and gets in bed with her, holding her saying everything will be alright, my Charlotte.

Impressions:

Wow, this episode was amazing. Although it didn’t have anywhere near the amount of humor or anything like that, I thought this episode was exceptional. The whole Tabitha deal was executed amazingly. I was stunned by how tragic of a back-story they had for her. Most of the time if an anime goes into the back-story of one of the minor characters, its no where near this interesting or tragic. They will usually just give you some background of their personality or how they met someone, but Tabitha, or Charlotte, had a huge back-story that was full of tragedy and so forth, and showing that she used to be lively and energetic, showing how she basically lost all of her family, her father murdered, and her mother gone insane protecting her. They don’t seem to be quite done with this all either, as the whole reason she went up there was to do something that they haven’t shown yet so they may do it in the next episode.

We also saw a huge advancement of Louise in this episode. Although she was drunk or whatever when she said this, it still seems to be what she thinks she just only was able to say it when intoxicated or whatever because she wouldn’t’ be so arrogant then and she would be able to give her true feelings. It seems from the scenes for next episode we will see a bit more of this. Now, how long this will be effecting her is questionable, it may be effecting her in the next episode but even if not, Saito now knows the truth about Louise’s feelings. It partly depends on if Louise remembers confessing to Saito or not that anything will happen but her saying that to Saito was defiantly huge.

Siesta said something rather interesting and I don’t know if they will be able to expand on it very much or if there will just be time for it. She said something along the lines of her great grandfather saying he came from a far away world and fell from the sky one day. Saito was about to question her about this but she left before he could. It sounds like her great grandfather was someone from Saito’s world so I wonder exactly how he got there, who he was, and if that method or his existence will have any effect on Saito and him wanting to get back.
