Kyo deals with the news of the Maihama server resetting and learns about Ryoko’s condition.

Summary:

We start off seeing Kyo staring out the window into the red raid and green sky. Seeing the word full of errors as the server nears resetting. Shima appears and Kyo says how he knows what’s happening, that the server will reset. Shima says that makes things easier on him, and says how the server isn’t a magic box. The amount of time and all the people and area take up a vast amount of data and even the server one day will not be able to keep up and it will break. Until then all they can do is fight against the Gards-Orm for a way to stop the cycle. Shima leaves and we see him on the Oceanus starting a meeting. Shizuno is with Chris, Chris asks her if she is ok doing this and she says Kyo doesn’t matter anymore, he is her new partner. Kyo is in the fake word, walking in the streets in the rain. He says to himself how this endless cycling world is like the cruelest hell, having to relive the same moments, a world without the possibility for growth and advancement. Kyo teleports to the Oceanus out of frustration and people around there are preparing for the reset. Lu Sheng says he just has to get over it and live with it, waiting for the moment of resurrection. While Shima is in some meeting, Minato is in charge and gets the report that they are defenseless in preparation for the reset, that the only Zega that could be ready for battle is Altair who is having its Anti Anti-Zega weapon installed while the others undergo repairs. In Shima’s meeting, he is talking with some A.I.s in which he says how they have to re make Zega’s weapons and armor. One of the A.I.s asks if they should sue the Final Strategy but Shima just says within three months. Kyo is bake in the fake world and he goes to his apartment. He notices he has some package in the mail and opens it up to find out it’s a diary written by him. He goes to his room and reads it, and finds out it was written by him before he lost his memory, to him. He kind of talks how this is a letter to the present Kyo from the old Kyo, saying how if he is reading this he must have become a Celebrant again. He didn’t want that for him, even tired to keep him from becoming one by leaving messages such as stay way from Shizuno or the big “Don’t believe the world you see.” He finishes reading it when there is a knock at his door. He finds out its Kei and Hayase. They both seem to know about the whole Celebrant thing and that the world will reset, but apparently since they aren’t a full Celebrant they will have their memory erased. They say the want to go do something since today is the last day on earth kind of.

Kyo heads out with them and meets up with his friends, Mizuki, Kawaguchi, and Ushio. They all sit around a laptop watching video recorded of them near the beginning of school five months ago which is basically tomorrow. They all talk about how far they have come. Kawaguchi talks about the swimming competition coming up and that they should have the goal of being the best so tomorrow they should start a better training schedule. Hayase, Kei and Kyo all kind of look at each other, knowing tomorrow will never come and Kyo jumps up saying that they should swim now. They say that’s a great idea and the guys all get ready to do a relay swimming, Kyo knowing that it’s their last chance to do something and that they can at least do this since they won’t be in the swimming competition. They all go, Kyo being last as the final minutes till midnight, the point of reset comes closer. Kei is timing them all, saying how it is going to be a new high school record. Kyo jumps in and as he is making the final stretch back, about to make the record with all his friends around him, the clock strikes midnight and the server resets, leaving him to finish the stretch and find himself all alone in the pool. Kyo goes through the next morning which is the start of the school semester, what he already went through. He goes through things like Kei saying they are glad they are in the same class, but then he gets wondering about Ryoko. He asks around and eventually asks one of the teachers to find out that apparently she was in a car accident and hospitalized. Kyo is shocked and kind of goes wtf so he rushes over to the hospital. She finds her name on the door in the hospital which is locked and says no visitors. He tries to pen it but Shima appears saying that after the reset, there wasn’t enough data left to make a full apparition. We see in the room Ryoko’s body hooked up to machines and such. Everyone on the Oceanus is seeing this and all react in horror saying how could this be. Shizuno says that there isn’t enough data to make her, that it is in the buffer memory of the Altair. Kyo goes in the room and sees this, just stunned saying it’s impossible. On the Oceanus Lu Sheng asks Shizuno, seeming pretty pissed off, why she revived her. Shizuno said for Kyo’s sake. Lu Sheng asks what about Ryoko herself, being trapped like that. Shizuno goes off saying she found her data and couldn’t just disregard it, she had to do something.

On the Oceanus, they get the reports of something on radar, that the Anti-Zega is approaching. They say for people to get to their battle stations, but only Altair is ready to be launched. The symbol appears on Kyo, Shima, and Ryoko’s head. Ryoko’s body then disappears and Shima tells Kyo to go the Altair, and he will learn everything. Kyo teleports out and into the cockpit of the Altair and prepares to launch when he hears Ryoko’s voice behind him. He turns around to see Ryoko sitting right there. Kyo is shocked, and asks how but Ryoko says they can’t talk about that now, they have to fight or the Oceanus will be destroyed. Kyo and Ryoko head out to fight Anti Zega. When Anti-Zega fires its armor dematerializer it doesn’t work and Ryoko says that the Altair had its armor changed so the light changes phases and cant’ be negated. The people watching on the Oceanus are amazed they aren’t loosing and someone asks why Ryoko’s memory was restored. Shizuno says how her memory is in the Altair so why she is fighting she can be her old self. They continue to fight and Ryoko says the only way to win is to use the new ultimate weapon. Kyo lands and so does the Anti-Zega. It powers up some big blast but the enemy does too. They fire, hitting each other and partially destroying the Zegas but not enough for them to die, just so they can’t keep fighting. Kyo gets out and rests Ryoko against the side. Ryoko apologizes to Kyo for being like this, how she can only be herself in the Zega. Kyo just holds her and they embrace each other. Chris on the Oceanus saying how this is two lovers who can only meet on the battlefield. Everyone on the Oceanus seems down and Kyo and Ryoko just hold each other.

Impressions:

Wow, there was a lot of drama in this episode with the whole resetting of the server making the fake world meaningless, as well as the whole deal with Ryoko. I really felt sorry for everyone and for the world when they were nearing the reset. It was actually really sad seeing everyone together, even thought it would all become meaningless. Seeing them all swim together, accomplishing things as friends, and then having the world reset before Kyo reached the goal, leaving him alone, was incredibly sad. Also, before that Kei who is kind of a shy nice guy who actually gets like his first love letter ever from someone the day of the reset, so nothing can ever come from it was incredibly sad I felt so sorry for him. It really does make all of existence really like a hell, a world you have to re live that has no chance for advancement and growth. Although it does make me wonder that if one day some plan will actually get people out of the servers and restore life. Wow, I am just amazed at how much this episode made me care, it made me so sad and I felt so sorry for the characters mainly about the reset thing, this episode just did an amazing job with the BGM that was playing during the final swim they had together.

There was a huge amount of drama behind Ryoko in this episode as well, but not just with Kyo and Ryoko. Lu Sheng showed a lot of emotion about the subject asking why Shima brought her into the world if she is just to lie in a hospital bed, and there was kind of the whole love triangle thing still going on with Shizuno and how she kind of helped her rival for Kyo because she was thinking only of Kyo’s feelings. God this gives me a really bad feeling. I want Kyo to be with Ryoko and things are starting to look like they may shape up with Ryoko being able to be herself on the battlefield, and the possibility of he returning to what she was before but even if things were like she never “died” in the fist place the whole thing with Shizuno gives me a bad feeling since Shizuno has been with Kyo before he lost his memories and is doing all this stuff for him behind his back. Although, right now it’s kind of a tragic setting like someone said lovers who can only meet on the battlefield, I still think there is hope for Ryoko returning to how she was but I can’t get over that there may be some memory wipe. Like she will go back to normal but not be a celebrant and Kyo will choose to let her stay that way and not get involved with her for her own good.

Another thing that they finally explained in this episode and it was really cool, is where the messages came from that Kyo got in the beginning. The ones that said stay away from Shizuno and not to believe the world he saw. It makes since though that he wouldn’t want himself to become a celebrant because as people say ignorance is bliss. For the people actually being reset they don’t know about it so it’s like they live their life normally and he just wanted that for his himself after he was kind of not himself because of a complete memory wipe.

One thing that they didn’t go into much detail but will likely be something important near the end of the series is one of the A.I.s or another commander was talking to Shima asking him if they should use the Final Strategy. Now what is this, it obviously sounds like some lat resort but what exactly does it do?
