.hack//Roots - 17

Haseo goes through the Painful Forest event in order to get stronger, as Yata and Pai question Phyllo and Ovan has an encounter with TriEdge.

Summary:

We start off seeing a bridge over a large area far below. TriEdge appears and then disappears soon after. We see Haseo in apparently an area of the forest he just entered although it’s kind of on the edge of the forest, fighting with a monster. He seems to be doing pretty good, fighting with his head and not just blindly attacking it and manages to defeat it and continues on though the forest, remembering loosing to Phyllo and telling himself how he will get stronger. Meanwhile, Pai is talking with Phyllo. She asks if he wants to go anywhere and he says no, because he has nothing to say to her, that he won’t talk about his relationship with that kid. Yata comes up and mentions to Phyllo about some girl who a long time ago came up to him and eventually talked to him. He says through this girl, Phyllo met Ovan and then asks what else, what exactly his relationship with Ovan is. Phyllo says nothing and gets up to leave as his dinner is ready. Saburou is talking with Tabby, asking her things like what does she want to do, and if she is going to do the Painful Forest event. Tabby doesn’t say much and Saburou is called away. Saburou goes to talk with Pai and she tells her to investigate Haseo. She says she knew it was him but Pai just tells her to do her job.

Haseo is still fighting in the forest, not easily defeating the monsters however, sustaining some damage. As he is knocked to the ground he is healed from some unknown source and gets up to fish off the monster. He turns behind him to find Saburou who healed him. He says how he doesn’t need her help, but she says she is just here to observe. Saburou walks with Haseo as he goes through the forest, asking him questions about this event, saying how she thinks it’s not really an event just a lost grounds opened up by the administrators. Meanwhile, we see Ovan walking down the bridge shown in the beginning. TriEdge appears and Ovan turns to him saying, “So you’ve come.” TriEdge pulls out his weapons and attacks Ovan but he blocks all the attacks. Ovan shoots at TriEdge but he blocks them all. TriEdge then puts away his weapons and holds onto his wrist, pointing his arm at Ovan. A bracelet begins to glow around his arm and three protrusions appear and start to spin as TriEdge powers up an attack. (Data Drain for those with an IQ lower then a rock that don’t know what he is doing) Ovan seems a bit shocked but smiles and pulls off the lock on his tower of an arm and black gooey bubbly stuff appears. Back with Haseo, Saburou is still following him and Haseo is trying to tell her to get lost. She mentions TriEdge and says how she thinks it’s an A.I. She asks him if he knows who Aura is and Haseo remembers back to Shino telling him about her. She says how it’s gone and Saburou wonders out loud if TriEdge took her place, perhaps like a father looking for his missing daughter Aura. Back with Ovan, Ovan is on the ground in a little bit of pain as TriEdge stands there. Ovan smiles at him however and soon streams of data start coming off TriEdge, like what happened to Shino. TriEdge disappears, leaving Ovan there.

In town, Tabby sees Kuhn talking with someone. She comes up to him and says hi, and the person Kuhn was talking to says something about declining Kuhn’s offer. Tabby asks what he is talking about and Kuhn says he has started a guild, Canard, to help newbies. He asks if Tabby wants to join but she says no and Kuhn heads off, leaving Tabby with the person he was talking to. Meanwhile, Haseo is still fighting in the forest with Saburou tagging along. He runs into Taihaku who seems to recognize Haseo but doesn’t say much about it. The three of them have a talk, apparently Taihaku got to the deepest part already. Saburou tells them how she doesn’t think this is really an event. Taihaku says something such as it doesn’t matter; it just depends on what you are trying to get out of the game. Meanwhile, Tabby is sitting on a hill with the guy who was talking to Kuhn. She ask why he didn’t’ join Kuhn’s guild and he says it’s because he thinks newbies aren’t he only ones who need help. He thinks mid level players need just as much help because they may be targeted by PKers more and such. He asks Tabby what she wants to do. She says how she wants to save Shino and help Haseo, but can’t. We then se Yata and Pai looking at their many monitors. Pai says how there was some data burst and they talk about Ovan and how there is evidence he may have fought with TriEdge. Yata pulls up a screen of a Sign somewhere, the one that papered when TriEdge disappeared. Back in the forest, Saburou is following Taihaku now, saying how she is just here to observe and wants to see the deepest part of the forest. Haseo is alone and comes face to face with a huge monster. He just smiles and laughs almost evilly as he charges after it.

Impressions:

Wow, this series is growing increasing more interesting and exciting. I nearly had a heart attack at many scenes in this and it wouldn’t be the first time I felt that way. They have really started to get into the change of Haseo. At the end there he was basically going crazy. He laughed like a maniac when faced with the huge monster which really shows him loosing himself in becoming stronger. We also get more information and mystery of Phyllo, and we start to see some other things such as what Tabby is going to do, not to mention things that are prominent in G.U. like Kuhn’s guild.

A new more prominent theory has come up for me on who or what exactly TriEdge is. Morgana. This was really completely sparked from what Saburou said but she compared TriEdge to a father looking for his daughter, Aura, who had disappeared. Well in a sense Morgana was kind of Aura’s mother. Morgana was basically what created the eight stages and much more then that Morgana is what created Aura so she is like a mother. Well, substitute mother for father in Saburou’s statement and you have TriEdge. Morgana could have possessed Kite’s PC data because of his connection to everything since he has the bracelet and used him to hunt down the titled people because they possess the eight stages. Without the eight stages, Aura cannot exist. Aura was created from the information that the stages gathered and the information of them themselves. So, if Morgana or TriEdge wants Aura back he/she/it would have to hunt down the people who have the information in them, the titled people such as Ovan, to get Aura back. That is only one theory but right now its one of my main ones I think may be.

Also, wtf was up with the whole TriEdge and Ovan incident? During that entire freaking time I almost had a freaking heart attack. First, when TriEdge appeared Ovan said so you’ve finally come or something which means that Ovan knows about TriEdge or something, but he seemed surprised when he pulled out his bracelet. That also disproves a lot of people’s theories that TriEdge is after Ovan to get his bracelet. He obviously already has it so that leaves the: him trying to hunt down epitaph titled people is probably most likely. But wow, when TriEdge held out his arm like that and made the bracelet my heart skipped a beat I swear, but that wasn’t’ even the most shocking thing. Ovan seemed to like Data Drain him back or something. It seems as if Ovan knew what TriEdge was doing, and when he pulled off his lock he seemed roughly in control of whatever black blob thing came out. At first it seemed like whatever it was didn’t work as Ovan was on the ground but then TriEdge started to disappear, so what exactly did he do? I guess we really didn’t see how much time transpired form when he opened it till we saw him on the ground, but I was under the assumption that sure the titled people can Data Drain but only in their Avatar Phase form thing. So did Ovan like turn into Corbentik and then turn back and was on the ground because it drained energy from him? Gah!

Ok, another thing that was brought up was again who the hell Phyllo is really and what’s up with his past. What Yata said to him was very interesting. He mentioned some girl who saw him and started to talk to him and so on. Now, at first one would think that this is Shino and it kind of makes since but part of me doubts this because of what I remember Shino saying to Phyllo. Shino said that Phyllo was the one who introduced her to Ovan. Now, Yata said that through the girl, Phyllo met Ovan. I could be misinterpreting what they say but if that’s what they meant then it means it can’t be Shino and would have to be someone with ties to Ovan already. If that’s the case its really hard for me to think of someone it could be. If indeed Phyllo met Ovan in The World R:2 then it’s unlikely that both Ovan and Phyllo were previously known characters in the other games. Also, I’m unsure of whether Phyllo knows Yata is Naobi. Again I was under the impression that Phyllo knew Naobi a long time ago and Naobi even came and talked to Phyllo a couple of times but Phyllo seemed a bit as if Yata was a stranger.

Maybe the girl was Aura. I still think Aura is what’s inside Ovan’s cannon thing. I really doubt Tri-Edge is Morganna, but he is an AI of some sort.

Hmm, it could be Aura I guess. Probably the most reasonable answer because there werent’ many other possibilities. I’m not sure about Aura being in Ovan. All of the titled people have the phase they are titled after in them. Haseo just doesn’t have Skeith in him yet but my guess is Ovan already has his so that’s why I thought that. Although, I never considered your theory so it could be that. Like I said the TriEdge being Morgana thing was just a theory, there are a lot of them. Suppose I should write another .hack//G.U. pre theories post since all the information we’ve gotten.

While I didn’t manage to finish the .hack//Sign games, I got the distinct feeling that Morganna was completely destroyed by the end of them so it being her would be unlikely I think. I do wonder about the bit about Aura running away, where would the perfet AI run to? Also since Aura has had children in the past that we know of, it’s always possible that Tri-Edge is an offspring of hers of sorts. We have seen him repairing what appears to be broken code at one point so overall he seems to be protecting The World, not destructive.

Of course that leaves us really wondering why he felt the need to attack and data-drain Shino. That one I haven’t figured out at all. At one point I thought Shino might really be Aura but now we know she’s a real person in a coma so that obviously wasn’t it.

I’m not sure we’re going to get final answers to a lot of this form the TV series though. I know that in the first game in the new trilogy Shino’s still in a coma so we may have to watch the series AND play the games to find out the final answers. Man I hope that’s not the case…

Hmm, I guess I over looked the possibility of him doing things to try and protect the world. THat would explain his reason for attacking Ovan because he has Corbentik inside him and that may be bad and all but it does leave you to wonder why Sino. Perhpas its just because she was where Aura used to be and he is trying to save Aura or something. Shino still really unsure of but TriEdge trying to protect the world makes since and it explaisn why he is after Ovan.
