Nanami, a high school girl, is just entering high school when she meets a guy who mostly everyone seems to adore, although she finds him increasing annoying but thinks she is falling for him

Summary:

We start off seeing the main character Nanami. She’s just entered high school and so she starts to try and make friends. She tries to talk to the girl sitting next to her, Yuri, but she is mostly quiet and the most she can get out of her is what middle school she went to. At lunch time she sees two girls walking from her class and asks to go with them. She is talking with them, asking what middle school they went to and the two girls mention how there don’t’ seem to be many people from Asahi. Nanami says that the girl sitting next to her is from there and they get all excited saying how she must have told her about “him”. They go on to say they are talking about guy named Yano. Apparently they had some winter session with him and he is really cool, in middle school he was popular with both guys and girls and by the end of the year 2/3 of the girls in his class were in love with him. Back in class, Nanami asks Yuri about being in the same class as Yano and asks about the whole 2/3 of the girls falling in love with him thing and Yuri says she hats him. After class Nanami is walking with one of the girls and she says how she wants to be on the student committee because Yano will likely be on there, but she doesn’t want to nominate herself. Nanami says she will nominate her but as she walks off she realizes she forgot her name. She asks a boy from her class who walked by and he tells her that her name is Mizuhara. The next day in class she finds out the guy who told her the name is Yano. The teacher says he should be president since no one nominated anyone so he nominates himself as vice president. Nanami stands up to nominate the girl she promised but when she says her name everyone laughs and Yuri asks if she meant Mizuguchi. Nanami ends up becoming president and later talks to Yano saying how it was rude to tell her the wrong name and he as if it was ruder then forgetting her name.

Nanami continues with her day, eating lunch she says to herself how she must be part of the other 1/3 of the class, as she is angry and annoyed at Yano. After school she heads off and walks past the classroom. Yano pops his head out the window which seems to be on the first floor and asks her how long her career counseling lasted. She doesn’t give him a straight answer as she seems to be pretty annoyed with him so she keeps on walking. Yano just says bye bye as she walks past which kind of startles her. She starts to say bye back but he went back in the classroom. She runs back to say bye to him but thinks he is gone when she looks in the window. HE appears however and Nanami is startled and a bit embarrassed, saying how she just thought he didn’t hear her and she heads off. Later in class Nanami is talking to herself how she can’t believe it, convincing herself that her heart was beating faster then because he startled her, that’s all. Nanami ends up getting a zero on her math test and when Yano approaches her talking about the school trip they are taking soon she tries to hide it from him but he sees it anyways much to her embarrassment. She later goes onto the roof to look at the sky, kind of depressed about her zero she got. She sees Yano sitting up there alone, seemingly very serious. She approaches him saying she is just up here to look at the sky and such. He asks if it’s because she got ht zero and she says yeah. Yano just says not to worry about it. Yano tells her to have a seat next to her. They talk with each other for a while; Yano tells her that he has things he has to deal with too. They talk for a while and eventually he gets up to leave. Nanami gets kind of embarrassed and tells him if he ever has any problems he can talk to her, because h listened. She says to herself as he watches him go that she likes him.

The next day at the school nature hike trip, Nanami is trying to deal with student class president duties, telling Yano to do some stuff and he just does it coolly. They start on their hike, Nanami walking with the two girls she was hanging out with before. The one who she tried to nominate says how she wants to eat lunch with Yano and asks Nanami to ask him since they are closer because of the whole president vide president thing. She tries to ask him but asks Yuri who is walking by when she can’t bring herself to ask. Eventually at a stop she asks him and he says fine but only if they can keep up with him and his friend he is walking with. Nanami and her friends continue on when they notice Yuri who is bent over. They ask her what’s wrong and it seems she isn’t’ feeling well. They pull her aside trying to deal with it when the friend Yano was walking with walks past. Nanami asks him if he can find someone to help s=and he says sure. A little while later Yano comes back and asks what’s wrong. He tries to tell if Yuri has a fever but gets his hand slapped away at first. Eventually he determines she does and pulls out his cell phone to find out where the teachers are so he can get help, even though supposedly everyone had their phones confiscated, he managed to keep his. Yano heads back to a stopping point to get the teachers and Nanami heads with him. TAs they walk Nanami mentions Yuri and asks if she is an only child Yano says she isn’t, she had a sister but she died last summer in a car accident. Eventually they get help for Yuri and Nanami and Yano spend the rest of the time waiting together for things to happen. At the end of the trip after they split up Nanami says how even though they just split up, she wants to see more of him. On the buss ride home Nanami is next to Yano’s friend and she learns that Yuri’s sister who died in a car accident used to be Yano’s girlfriend.

Impressions:

I don’t watch much Shoujo to this extent. I may watch some series that are mostly romance centered but as far as this kind of art style and so forth I don’t have too much experience with. None the less I thought this was a great episode and the series looks to be fairly good. I’ve heard a lot of people say stuff like how the pace is wrong or some crap like that. It could be because they are comparing it to more anime then I am but I thought it was all fine. It seems to me like Yano and Nanami will become more or less a couple fairly early on in the series which isn’t bad, it allows for the rest of the series to deal with things such as problems with the relationship itself and the nice moments of just being together whether then take the focus some other stuff does which takes the entire series to get together and we don’t see any of the actual relationship.

This episode had a lot more humor then I had expected from this show, which is good, not at all bad, in fact I like that they balanced some humor into the growing attraction they showed Nanami having for Yano. It seems like it is probably something that will continue for a little bit. As I said before, it seems as if Yano and Nanami will get together fairly early so the bulk of the series will be them already together. Because of the whole car crash incident they talked about in Yano’s past there defiantly seems to be room for some drama and tragedy but just unsure of how big it will be and how permanent.
