Great episode with the appearance of a new girl that makes Belldandy feel jealous for the first time in her life.

Summary:

We start off with Keiichi helping clean the clubhouse. After a while, and some boxes fall and almost crush Hasegawa, Belldandy manages to save her with her powers. After cleaning, Keiichi is getting things out of his locker when he finds a love note. He reads it and finds out it is from a girl named Shiho. She will be waiting for him at the water fountain. Urd appears calling Keiichi such a player and so on and she asks if he is going out with her. He gets really embarrassed saying he isn’t and looks at Belldandy who doesn’t seem to be jealous or worried at all, saying how she must have used a lot of courage to write this and he should go see her. They go to see her, on the way Keiichi wonders if Belldandy feels any jealousy at this as she seems fine with everything. They see the girl waiting at the fountain and Urd says how cute she is. Urd says Keiichi is getting embarrassed and how that girl is Keiichi’s type. Keiichi gets embarrassed and looks at Belldandy who just says that the girl is indeed beautiful and he should go up to her. The girl sees Keiichi and comes up to him and hanks him for coming. Keiichi tries to say he is sorry and can’t accept her feelings and such but she says hold on and pulls out a talisman saying, “Don’t move, you are possessed by an evil spirit.” Keiichi freaks out thinking she knows something about the goddesses but she is just some self made exorcist and says she feels something coming from him.

They go home with Shiho who stays in Skuld’s room much to Skuld’s disapproval. They allow her to stay and try out whatever it is she thinks she has to do to dispel the evil spirits. While she is getting ready Keiichi and Belldandy talk. Belldandy says how she is glad the girl didn’t really like him, that if she did the girl would end up getting hurt. Shiho comes out saying she is ready, dressed as a traditional priestess saying she is ready for the exorcism. She gets really close to Keiichi, almost kissing him saying she has to sync their breathing. Belldandy sees this and soon one of the lights in the room shatters. Shiho jumps up saying the evil spirits have shown themselves and she puts talismans all around the room. Soon a bunch of small harmless ghost creatures appear and Urd looks at the talisman saying she has it wrong, that she has instead summoned low level demons. She tears them off and when they disappear Shiho says her talismans worked. Shiho thanks Keiichi for allowing her to work on her powers and do this kind of thing. She gives him a kiss on the cheek. Belldandy sees this and as it goes on for a little while there is a huge explosion of power from Belldandy, lights shatter, and electricity shoots out of appliances, water pipes burst. Urd yells to Belldandy and she snaps out of a sort of trance and things go back to normal.

Urd explains to Keiichi that Belldandy is experiencing a power leak. That she is feeling jealousy. Urd says how even though she is a goddess, Belldandy gets those kinds of feelings too. She says how love isn’t all happiness, it is also these kinds of feelings as well and Belldandy has never experienced this before so she doesn’t know how to handle these dark feelings he is having. They show Belldandy on the porch alone huddled up saying she doesn’t know what’s happening to herself, she doesn’t know what these dark feelings are. She says for someone to help her. Later, we see a magic circle drawn on the ground. Shiho says her work isn’t done become of that huge disruption that unbeknownst to her came from Belldandy. She tries to summon a creature that protects humanity against evil spirits but she summons Garm, a beast that guards the underworld in Norse mythology. She tells Garm how she was trying to summon someone else much to the anger of Garm and he attacks. Urd jumps in and protects with a barrier against him, yelling at Skuld to wipe away the magic circle. Nothing seems to be working and Belldandy says how they need to use w withdrawal program. Urd is busy keeping Garm back and Shiho being scared hugs onto Keiichi. Belldandy sees this and a power surge hits Garm and knocks him back. Urd says how they need to harness Belldandy’s power, that the seal on her power is weakened because of her state. She uses a spell to make Keiichi… grope Shiho. Belldandy sees this and there is another surge of power that gets rid of Garm. After the battle Belldandy is crying, saying how she really wasn’t worried about the girl being sad if she liked Keiichi, she was worried about loosing him even though she said she trusted him. She says how terrible she is but Keiichi says it’s ok. He repeats what Urd told him about love not just being the good things, that even in the bad things you want to be with that person. Belldandy then embraces Keiichi, happy again.

Impressions:

This was a great episode, one of the better ones I think. Not only was there some development in the advancement of Keiichi and Belldandy’s relationship but there was a lot of humor in there too, I think it was a great blend of the two genres that this show focus on. It was nice seeing Belldandy as something other then a perfect person being a goddess and all. It was interesting seeing this new character although I don’t really think they will be in the series anymore, if they are maybe a brief un-important appearance in a far later episode but with the new character it allowed for the jealousy point to be brought up, showing that Belldandy isn’t perfect. Although I did wonder why Shiho didn’t think there was something up when Urd made a barrier and expelled Garm by herself.

Some of the better humor parts of this episode was when Shiho said an evil spirit had possessed Urd and she yelled it’s not an evil spirit it’s a vengeful spirit, although Shiho didn’t know that is actually what Urd is and such being a Goddess. Again Also some of the best moments were with Skuld when Urd yelled at her to wipe away the magic circle and she was there crying like a scardey-cat saying it won’t come off. There was also just the thing Urd did to Keiichi to make Belldandy even more jealous to use.
