We get some advancement of Ayuki’s character as the characters do a test of courage at their school, set up by Sora.

Summary:
We start off with a brief flash into Ayuki’s childhood. She is in a garden with her mom and her mom points out a pupa and says how it is working hard to become a butterfly and become beautiful. She says someday Ayuki will be beautiful.
At the present time, Sora is talking to Hazumu about how he needs more data about love. He points out a tradition, the Test of Courage and how Hazumu needs to do that. Hazumu tries to refuse, saying it is way too scary but Sora insists. Hazumu invites Ayuki, Asuta, Tomari and Yasuna. Tomari says how she isn’t particularly looking forward to it, remembering when they were kids Hazumu being scared of everything and clinging on to things and not letting go.
On the roof Hazumu is watering some plants when she overhears Ayuki talking with someone. Ayuki rejects this guy’s confession saying she already has someone she likes. Hazumu encourages Ayuki to work hard for the person she likes but she just calmly says Nah, she won’t. She says she doesn’t intend to get involved. Meanwhile Tomari visits Yasuna’s house to show her the pictures from the beach trip and asks if she wants a copy of any of them when she goes to get duplicates. Yasuna points out a picture of Hazumu, Tomari and Yasuna and mentions how happy Hazumu looks. They kind of jokingly ask why she looks so happy, because she is with Tomari or Yasuna and things get a bit tense and Tomari leaves.
At night, everyone is outside the school for the test of courage. They draw straws as to what groups they go in. Asuta has to go by himself, Hazumu and Tomari go and Yasuna and Ayuki. Everyone heads through the school to their goal; Hazumu completely scared clinging onto Tomari keeping her eyes shut most of the time. Meanwhile Yasuna and Ayuki are talking and Yasuna mentions how Tomari told her that she liked Hazumu. Ayuki ask her how it felt and she says she was kind of relieved that she straight out told her. They hear Hazumu scream because she is basically just a scared cat and Ayuki tells Yasuna to go after her. Before Yasuna leaves she asks Ayuki why she is always close to Hazumu. Ayuki is a bit taken back but says Yasuna isn’t completely wrong, guessing what she is thinking but that she doesn’t intend to do anything so Yasuna has nothing to worry about.
Everyone continues through the school being interrupted and scared by the various supernatural things Sora does to try and scare them to collect data. Hazumu being more scared than anyone else is runs off into some classroom where she meets up with Ayuki. Hazumu asks what she is doing there and Ayuki answers looking at butterflies as it shows a bunch of butterflies on display. Ayuki and Hazumu talk and Ayuki says that she wont get involved or anything and basically hints enough to say that she likes Hazumu but is happy just watching and will never do anything. Hazumu then heads off. Tomari and Yasuna reach the goal for the test and get to talking. They become a bit more of friends or friendly rivals. Hazumu arrives completely scared and they finish the test together as the episode ends with Ayuki watching them.
Impressions:
It was interesting that they developed Ayuki’s character more in this episode. She had before been a minor character, perhaps more important then Asuta because she had given her support to Tomari in telling her what to do. Ayuki always seemed to know what was going on and could see people’s feelings as to how they felt about whom. It was a bit surprising that she also likes Hazumu but she is only there to watch and not to act. I don’t really think they will span more on her liking Hazumu, she isn’t really an option at all but I think Ayuki will give some support at some point in the future which is pretty important.
We didn’t get much advancement one way or the other between Tomari and Yasuna, as to which Hazumu will choose. Hazumu did spend most of her time at the Test of Courage with Tomari but they didn’t have much of advancement in their relationship. There is still a somewhat truce between them right now as there isn’t a clear cut winner but soon we will probably see some drama where it will sway eventually ending up with one of them.
The episode seemed mostly comedy but I can tell that may be fading away to more drama. I did find this episode pretty funny with people’s reaction to the things Sora did as well as Hazumu’s constant complete fright which was very funny. They still haven’t dealt very much with Yasuna’s yurivision which I think will be a main topic yet to come as well as just drama in general between Hazumu’s choice between Tomari and Yasuna as well as misunderstands and hostility between Yasuna and Tomari.
