Fate/Stay Night – 02

We get the introduction of a new Servant, Lancer as well as the advancement of Shirou’s power.

Summary:

We start off with a flashback to Rin’s past, her father leaving her and her having a feeling he would never come back. She is then talking about how she didn’t draw the Servant she wanted, she wanted Saber but got Archer instead. Archer is telling her that since she is a great master then the Servant she summoned, himself, must be the best Servant. Rin then asks Archer about his real name, past, hero’s soul, and sort of personal information. Archer says that he doesn’t know and Rin forgets about it for now.

We then go to Shirou and Sakura walking to school after Sakura had come and made breakfast and lunch and everything for Shirou, she sort of has this whole Kaede thing going on which hints that she might have a thing for Shirou. At school Shirou deals with some things and in particular Shinji, an acquaintance you could say who is a real jerk.

Rin is talking with Archer on the roof about another master or servant watching them, planning an attack. Then at night fall a new Servant, Lancer makes his appearance and uses, you guessed it, a lance. Lancer and Archer start fighting and Shirou who stayed at school late to clean hears some things going on and sees them fighting. Lancer then ignores Archer and chases after Shirou. Lancer kills Shirou but Rin finds him and mentions something like, “Oh no, not him,” Which leads to me to believe that she may have a thing for him as well. She revives him with a stone somehow and then leaves. Later, Archer says how she shouldn’t have done that, that no one should witness their war and that witnesses need to be killed, even Lancer forsakes their fight to silence Shirou.

When Shirou comes to he heads back to his house but back with Rin and Archer, Archer mentions how Lancer will know that he didn’t die and come after him again. Rin and Archer head off towards Shirou’s house. Lancer, who just arrived starts trying to kill Shirou but he is doing a fairly good job of staying alive. He runs out to the shed where a circle is glowing on the floor. A symbol appears on Shirou’s hand and from the circle comes Saber, Shirou’s now new Servant. Shirou is shocked and mesmerized by her grace and the episode ends.

Impressions:

We get a lot more action in this episode then we do in the first one, which isn’t really saying anything actually. I think the episode does a good job of moving along the plot with the introduction of two new Servants, Lancer and Saber.

We know there are seven Masters and seven Servants. So far we know of 2 Masters and 3 Servants; Rin and Shirou for the Masters and Archer, Lancer, and Saber for the Servants. There is also the appearance of the girl from episode one who is probably most defiantly a Master but they didn’t say that yet so I won’t include it.

There is also something more with Shinji or they would not have put him in this episode so much if he was just to remain a minor character for the rest of the series, a Master perhaps?

I did agree with Shirou’s comment about how he was captivated by the elegance of when Saber came, I loved that scene. The moonlight shining down on Saber, being reflected all around her and off dust in the air was truly a great scene.
