.hack//Roots - 02

We get some more information on the guild the Twilight Brigade and what it is they are searching for as well as some mystery into Ovan and some other mysterious characters.

Summary:

We begin with Tabby talking to Ovan and Shino. She apparently has joined the guild now. Shino then goes to talk to Haseo and asks him to join but he says no. Shino says that the guild is looking for the “Key of the Twilight”. Shino says she still has hope that Haseo will join though.

Haseo then talks to Phyllo the cat player. Phyllo tells Haseo about the Key of the Twilight and how it is basically just a rumor and no one knows how to get it or what it even actually does; people just want to find it. Haseo then goes to talk to an acquaintance of Phyllo’s, B-Set. B-Set used to be in the Twilight Brigade but quit and she basically tells him not to get involved. B-Set then refers Haseo to another ex-member of the guild. Haseo meets up with him and tells him mostly about Ovan and how he is very mysterious and how he believes his left arm weapon is some sort of a hack. He says even if Haseo were to join the guild it doesn’t mean he will learn anything more about him.

Upon return to the town Haseo meets up with Ovan who was waiting for him. Ovan sort of tells Haseo words are meaningless and that he would have to show Haseo. Ovan asks him sort of if he will join him, as in join the guild and Haseo says he will think about it, and then leaves.

We end with the blue beast character that seemed to be the leader of the other guild that was interested in what Ovan was doing talking with Phyllo, apparently they go way back. The beast thing is about to ask something and Phyllo takes a guess that it’s about Haseo and the beast character basically acknowledges him.

Impressions:

This episode, like all the .hack installments are fairly slow, but that ok people. Seriously, .hack is not like any other anime and I don’t get how people can judge it so harshly. This episode sets up elements of mystery just fine, if it goes too fast it just won’t work the way it is supposed to. This isn’t an action anime so people need to stop expecting that from this. The story is slow but that is because it so deep and intricate.

Overall I think people can only truly judge .hack upon the whole “Project .hack” They cannot judge Sign by itself, or Liminality, or the games, or the now new roots. They need to place them all in the big picture. It is not a light anime. Even though it has no fighting or romance drama in it, it is no where near light, the plot is deep. Now, it’s up to you if you like the plot, but the fact is it is deep and you cannot judge it when you don’t get exposed truly to it.
